GUEST SPEAKER : Darren Murrey from Brown Bag Films ( 2D Artist )
BIO – Friday’s opening guest speaker, Darren Murray, is an Irish animator whose passion for the animated world brought him from Ballyfermot College to one of Ireland’s proudest studios, the internationally acclaimed ‘Brown Bag Films’. A showcase of hard work, persistence and passion, Murray’s early time as an intern left a considerable impression and lead to his opening role as a production assistant for Brown Bag Films. In just a few short years, Murray has taken full advantage of his place at the epicentre of Irish animation, attaining the position of Junior 2D Artist before later establishing himself as a senior ‘2D Artist’. Lending us his time to lead Friday’s opening ‘Kids Animated Workshop’, Darren Murray offers the public a chance to engage with an industry professional at the heart of Ireland’s animated scene; someone whose work for Brown Bag Studios involves character and prop design, facilitating concepts through to realisation, and production.Murray’s trajectory maps a childhood exuberance for animation to entering a leading studio within the industry itself. Celebrating their first Academy Award nomination in 2002 for Give Up Yer Aul Sins, Brown Bag Films have since established themselves as an enduring force in the animation world. In 2010, they won a second Academy Award nomination for ‘Granny O’ Grimms Sleeping Beauty’, while their animated kids shows (Peter Rabbit, Bing, Doc McStuffins, Octonauts, Henry Hugglemonster) have been perennial winners and contenders at the Emmys and BAFTAs. CREDITS: Doc Mcstuffins (2014-present, creator Chris Nee), Octonauts (2014-present, creator V. Wong & M. C. Murphy) Stinky and Dirty (2016-present, dir. S Collins & D. McCamley)
