Fís Creative Media Degree Show
The Section of Creative Media in the Dundalk Institute of Technology returns with its end of year showcase, Fís 2014, in the stunning surroundings of the recently renovated Carroll’s Building. Featuring completely new and original work ranging from film to interactive installations and games, Fís 2014 examines a wide range of ideas reflecting on the nature of art, technology & media forms.
Exciting new works such as Lemuria: The Lost Land, Caecus, and Perceptune allow visitors to explore sensory awareness in new ways. SCIO: Connecting the Emigration Generation captures current patterns of migration and features a phone app that allows users abroad to contribute and interact with local visitors. Also launching will be a new arcade game, a programme that creates art from users’ bicycle peddling and an interactive website to support young victims of cyberbullying.
Visitors can also watch new films exploring celebrity culture, PTSD, superheroes and fatherhood. Two documentaries will also premiere on Wednesday night. Tonn Nua? features interviews with industry experts about the exciting ‘new wave’ in Irish cinema while Player Character explores how users engage with the immensely popular yet brutally violent video game Grand Theft Auto V. Music is central to Lush, a film blurring the line between reality and fiction which questions the benefits of teen pop star fame, while A Father’s Song examines the link between music and memory.
The work on show will highlight the relevant and diverse skills that students of creative media & film acquire over the course of their studies at DKIT. The students showcasing work are graduating from 4 main programmes: the BA/BA (Hons) in Communications in Creative Multimedia & the BA/ BA (Hons) in Video and Film Production.
Fís 2014 is open to all, and will be launched at 6 pm in the Carroll’s Building on Wednesday 4th June and is open to the public on Thursday 5th June 12 – 9 pm
