This hands-on course offers tuition from an experienced professional who will take students through the basics guiding you through common situations, errors and best practice.


From mixers to microphones and cables, there is a lot to consider. Take this hands-on course in which an experienced professional takes you through the basics and guides you through common situations, errors and best practices. As part of the course you will record and review various interview set-ups and scenes. Emmy-nominated Sound Recordist Noel Quinn (Michael Collins, Reign of Fire).


Course Content:

  • Using a mixer
  • Boom swinging
  • The relationship between camera operator, sound recordist and boom operator
  • Advice on microphones
  • Working as a crew


Tutor: Noel Quinn

Emmy-nominated Sound Recordist, Noel Quinn has worked on sound for feature films, documentaries, and commercials in a number of countries worldwide, and has lectured extensively on film sound. Credits include Michael Collins, Reign of Fire and The Butcher Boy.
