Kildare County Council is delighted to announce details of the 2017 Kildare Short Grass Film commissions. Awards were made for two films to be shot on location in Co Kildare, with funding of €12,500 to support the productions.

Written by Cian Mc Garrigle, directed by Paudie Baggott and produced by Sarah Barr, ‘Rip to the Rescue!’ is a dark sci-fi comedy. The film is set in post-apocalyptic Ireland where a suave American jet pilot tries to rescue a beautiful young woman from her domineering mother – but he soon finds out that in the midlands, family can be deadly. The creative team said that they were ‘over the moon’, in receiving the commission.

‘Taking Stock’ written and directed by Siobhan McMahon and produced by Emma Owen of Babyjane Productions sees ‘A farmer challenged, slowly comes undone protecting his farm’. They commented, ‘We are thrilled to be awarded the Kildare County Council/Short Grass Film Commission. This bursary has given us the opportunity to share our story and create a film that will engage and appeal to a wide-reaching audience. We are delighted to be collaborating with the Kildare Arts Service. Kildare was a natural choice for our film as the locations are a perfect match. We are aware that previous recipients of the award were extremely successful on the festival circuit ………the standard has been set!’
Mayor of Kildare, Cllr Ivan Keatley congratulated both of the creative teams on their awards and stated that he hoped these films would further enhance Kildare’s reputation as a ‘film friendly county’.

At the recent Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA’s), two films that received support from Kildare County Council were nominated. The multi-award winning ‘Gridlock’, was short-listed in the category for ‘Best Short Film’, having previously been long-listed for the Oscars. Actress Caoilfhionn Dunne received a IFTA nomination for her lead role in ‘In View’, which was largely shot on location in Kildare, with support from Kildare County Council. ‘In View’ has a cinema release in IFI, Dublin starting on the 19th May.
