Magnolia Acquire World Rights to STANDBY
Starring Brian Gleeson and Jessica Paré
Magnolia Pictures International announced today that they have acquired world rights to the IFB-funded romantic comedy Standby, the charming feature debut from Irish directors Rob and Ronan Burke. Standby features Mad Men’s Jessica Paré and Brian Gleeson (The Stag). The film was scripted by Pierce Ryan and produced by John Wallace of Black Sheep Productions and David Grumbach of Juliette Films with the support of Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film, RTÉ and Film Fund Luxembourg.
About Standby: Alan (Gleeson) works at the tourism desk in Dublin Airport. Alice (Paré) is an American on standby. Eight years ago, Alan and Alice had a romance that ended badly. Now, every hotel room in Dublin is booked and despite initial frostiness, they decide to spend the evening getting to know each other again. Both will tell lies about how well the last eight years have gone, but as the night goes on they gradually come to realize that perhaps they are more compatible than ever before.
Christina Rogers and the Magnolia Pictures International team will be representing the film at the upcoming Marché du Film in Cannes.
