NEW RELEASE: The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology
The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology opened in cinemas Friday October 4th
Taxi Driver’s Travis Bickle compared to Norwegian extremist Anders Breivik. Stephen Spielberg’s Jaws used to explain the workings of Nazi anti-Semitism. In the eagerly anticipated sequel to 2006’s The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema, director Sophie Fiennes and philosopher Slavoj Zižek use their imaginative interpretation of cinema to examine the mechanisms that shape our collective beliefs and practices.
After its premiere as part of the Mavericks programme at the Toronto Film Festival last year, The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology went on to a Debate Gala screening at the BFI London Film Festival and played at numerous other festivals around the world.
It opens in cinemas across the UK and Ireland, Friday, October 4th. Catch it in the IFI, Dublin, and QFT, Belfast. And next Tuesday, October 8th, there will be a special screening in the Light House Cinema, Dublin, after which cinema-goers can see a Q&A with Slavoj Zižek that will be recorded tonight in London.
“Occasionally bonkers but kinda brilliant with it, there’s plenty here to thrill cineastes and fanboys alike.” Empire ****
“Carry on, Slavoj. You’re a treasure.” The Irish Times ****
The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology is a UK/Irish co-production between P Guide Productions and Blinder Films and was made with the support of Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.
