Win in Cleveland for Mac an Athair
Mac an Athar (His Father’s Son) has picked up the Jesse Epstein Humanitarian Award at the prestigious Cleveland International Film Festival. Written and directed by Colm Bairéad and produced by Greg Corcoran for Fingers Crossed Films, the 21 minute short film Mac an Athar was commissioned as part of the Lasair scheme administered by Filmbase and TG4 and received additional support from Gael Linn. The film is screening at 8.30pm next Wednesday in The Morgan Bar as part of the Temple Bar Film Festival.
Mac an Athar is a moving examination of a father-son relationship in the aftermath of a devastating family tragedy.
It features Macdara Ó Fatharta as Tomás, the father of the Ó Gallchóir family and Cain Williams as his 12-year old son, Seán. The supporting cast includes Ronan Wilmot, Paddy C. Courtney, Paul Roe and John Burke.
Mac an Athar plays next at The Belfast Film Festival, The Britspotting Film Festival Berlin and FilmStock in the UK.
