An Cosc Picks up Best In Festival award & Tart wins Best Cinematography at Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival
The Irish language short An Cosc picked up the Best In Festival Award at the inaugural Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival. Over 250 people were at the awards ceremony on Sunday 17th in the Harbour View Hotel in Schull to see director Vincent Gallagher pick up the award. Gallagher directed from a script by Hugh Travers with Claire McCaughley producing. The same team are currently prepping Crossword, a Filmbase/RTÉ short, to shoot in the summer.
Set in the 1930’s, An Cosc stars Diarmaid Murtagh and Cillian O’Sullivan as two childhood friends from opposite sides of town who get caught up in a feud over local pride and sporting politics that has unexpected consequences for the first president of Ireland. Formerly titled Douglas’ Hide, An Cosc was funded by Filmbase/TG4 through the Lasair scheme.
Mairtín de Barra also picked up the Best Cinematography award for his Filmbase/RTÉ funded short film Tart. The film stars Brian McGrath, Michael Patric and Orla Fitzgerald in an unusual and tragic story of life, loss and memory. It was produced by Steven Davenport for Underground Films and written and directed by Mairtín de Barra.
The Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival aims to celebrate and encourage the making of short films by bringing together filmmakers to share their knowledge & techniques through workshops, symposiums and screenings. In just its first year it has received high profile support from patrons such as Jeremy Irons, Steve Coogan, Jim Sheridan, Kirsten Sheridan and Gerard Stembridge. Festival Chairman, Chris O’Dell made frequent reference to the consistently high quality of the shortlisted submissions for competition and the difficulty the selection jury had in choosing winners in the various categories.
