ISA CON 2010 - an animation and games event for students and industry professionals

Event Speakers:
Jason Ryan - Supervising Animator, DreamWorks Animation Studios
After studying Classical Animation at Ballyfermot College, Jason worked as a Supervising Animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios for almost twelve years. He is currently a Supervising Animator at DreamWorks Animation Studios. At Disney, Jason worked as an Animator on Fantasia 2000, as an Animation Supervisor on Philharmagic and as a Supervising Animator on Chicken
Little. Since joining Dreamworks, Jason supervised animation on Monsters vs Aliens and is currently a Supervising Animator on the movie Shrek Forever After. While working on Chicken Little, Jason was also a mentor with AnimationMentor.com.

Louise Ridgeway – Head of Animation, Rare Ltd
Having spent 3 years studying Classical Animation at Ballyfermot College, Louise moved to England to work for renowned games company Rare ltd. At Rare, Louise discovered the advantages of applying her classical knowledge of animation to 3D animation and making it work within a game environment. Louise has worked on numerous projects, including Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Conker Live and Reloaded and most recently has helped animate the Avatar for the new dashboard on the Xbox 360. Louise’s position as Head of Animation at Rare is an excellent opportunity for her to establish her belief that good character animation in a game is of the utmost importance.

Stephen McFarlane – Art Director, Rare Ltd
Stephen is a classically trained artist, having studied illustration at Kingston University. He worked at Arc Developments for 3 years as a designer and then joined Rare in 1998. Since joining Rare, Stephen has worked on many titles including, Jet Force Gemini, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Viva Pinata and more recently Banjo Kazooie, Nuts and Bolts. He is currently responsible for the Art Production team at Rare and is heavily involved in the recruitment and training of artists. He also worked at Bob Godfrey films for many years and was part of the team nominated for an Oscar for Henry’s Cat.

Chris Dicker – Creative Director, TT Animation and Co Creator, What’s Your NEWS?
Chris studied Classical Animation at BCFE, where he was selected to go to Walt Disney Feature Animation France as an intern. In his final year, Walt Disney France awarded him a grant for his achievement, motivation and artistic abilities. From 2000-2006 he worked on several major game titles for TT Games as lead animator and designer, including Crash Bandicoot, Haven, Justice League, Lego Star Wars and Narnia The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe. From 2006 until now Chris has been creating & developing TV shows, the first of which is What’s Your NEWS?, winner of Best Pre-School Show and the overall Grand Prix Prize at the NHK Japan Prize, an international contest for educational media held in Tokyo.

Nick Ryan – Director/Producer and Ruairi Robinson – Writer/Director
Nick runs Image Now films, and works as a director of commercials, documentaries and films. He has directed high profile commercials and campaigns for clients such as Boru Vodka and MTV. Nick wrote and directed the award winning ‘A Lonely Sky’ and the award winning ‘The German’. In 2006 Nick produced Ruairi Robinson’s ‘The Silent City’. Ruairi is a multi award-winning
director of live action and animation, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Animated film in 2002 for “Fifty Percent Grey”. Ruairi is currently completing his latest short film Bad Robot, which Nick is producing. http://www.imagenow.ie,

Damian Farrell – Creative Director, Caboom
Damian Farrell is CEO and Creative Director of Caboom, an Irish production company with offices in Dublin and LA. With a background in animation, live action and puppeteering, Damian has directed and produced commercials, TV and film work across many genres including comedy, entertainment, children’s, hidden-camera and documentary in Ireland, the UK & US for RTE, BBC, Disney, Fox American Greetings and TBS. He is also the chairman of the Animation Ireland CEO Forum, a representative body of Irish animation studios who among other things, look to promote the success of the Irish animation industry internationally.

10-12pm: Jason Ryan – Animation on Feature Films from Storyboards to Polished CG
2-4pm: Portfolio Session (in association with http://www.gamedevelopers.ie) - ISA CON 2010 guests will look at and offer advice on portfolios and show reels. This session is also open to non-ticket holders.
