JDIFF announce recipients of this year’s Volta Awards

Ciarán Hinds, Patricia Clarkson and Kristin Scott Thomas to receive Voltas at the 8th Jameson Dublin International Film Festival

The Volta is the JDIFF Career Achievement Award, and this year the festival is delighted to recognise the outstanding acting talent of Ciarán Hinds, Patricia Clarkson and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Festival Director Gráinne Humphreys commented: ‘This year, we have three of the world’s greatest screen actors accepting the Volta Award. Equally comfortable on stage and screen, all three honourees move effortlessly between charismatic leading roles and scene stealing supporting turns, they light up the screen in every role. It is a huge honour to welcome Ciarán Hinds, Patricia Clarkson and Kristin Scott Thomas to the festival to present their new films and to accept our festival tribute.’

The Volta awards are named after Ireland’s first dedicated cinema, the Volta Picture Theatre, which was located on Mary Street in Dublin and was established by James Joyce in 1909. Each year, the festival organisers identify key members of the international filmmaking community whose work has been admired and whose contribution to world cinema deserves to be celebrated. The Voltas allow the festival to pay tribute to those who have made a major contribution to the film industry throughout their career and are delighted with this year’s recipients. Previous recipients have included Brendan Gleeson, Daniel Day Lewis, Gabriel Byrne, Thierry Fremaux and Paulo Sorrentino.

Ciarán Hinds will receive the award at the end of the screening of Life During Wartime on Saturday 20th February; Patricia Clarkson will receive the award at the end of the screening of Cairo Time on Tuesday 23rd February, and Kristin Scott Thomas will receive the award at the end of the screening of Partir on Friday 26th February.
