Oscar for Irish animator Richard Baneham
The Irish animator Richard Baneham picked up the Best Visual Effects Award at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards® last weekend. Dubliner Baneham studied animation in Ballyfermot College of Further Education before moving to Los Angeles.
Richard together with Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum and Andrew Jones, picked up the award for their work on Avatar. The award comes after the team won the BAFTA for Best Special Visual Effects last month.
There was a strong Irish contingent at this year’s Academy Awards with five nominations in different categories®.
