Rathmines College presents Festival Under the Clock 2010

Rathmines College has announced the upcoming “Festival Under the Clock”, Rathmines Saturday 20th March 2010.

Festival Under the Clock is a one day entertainment extravaganza that offers a chance to enjoy, totally free, some of the most talented artists in Ireland. This year’s highlights include Don Baker, Vladimir Jablokov, Mutefish and Eric Lalor. Dance, poetry and traditional music in a celebration of Eastern European culture; a mini film festival, ‘The Anchor Bay Film Day’, with films for kids in the morning, adults at night and an afternoon of family fun on the street in the new Rathmines Square where Wassa Wassa’s live African drum and dance performance will delight all ages while stilt walkers, face painters and balloon modellers will also entertain the kids.

In Rathmines Town Hall grab the unique opportunity to see Don Baker, a man born with the blues, and rated as ‘one of the worlds greatest acoustic harmonica players’ . A master musician whose career in Ireland began on Dublin’s Grafton St; led to Marley park, the National Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall: Vladimir Jablokov and the Slovak Festival Orchestra will perform sensational classical music, an unmissable treat.

Belly-achingly funny, Eric Lalor, discovered on Des Bishop’s ‘Joy in the Hood’ and described as ‘One of Irelands finest talents’ by the International Comedy Club. Eric has appeared in Just for Laughs, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has supported Tommy Tiernan, Neil Delemere and Jason Byrne .

Two fantastic Eastern European dance sets from Vereneja, and the Slovak folklore ensemble, Ostroha, who present the beautiful Slovak folklore and traditions via their song, dance and music. An energetic and floor tapping performance from Mutefish – Eastern European and traditional Irish Music with a twist.

Among the films included in The Anchor Bay Film Day are the UK/Irish film premiere of ‘Wow Wow Woopsie’, an animated movie featuring the voice of ‘Beyonce Knowles’, ‘The Slammin Salmon’ from the makers of Beerfest and Super Troopers and The Graves, a horror to satisfy the more eager horror plans.
