CINE-CAFE goes on tour during May as part of Bealtaine 2010 festival
Every year during the whole month of May the charitable organisation Age & Opportunity hold a nationwide festival called ‘Bealtaine’ to celebrate the creativity of people in older age. This May will be the fifteenth year of the festival, which grows bigger every year. The Bealtaine 2010 website may be accessed either directly at www.bealtaine.com or via a link from www.ageandopportunity.ie and it contains detailed information about the month-long festival. The official 44-page programme for Bealtaine 2010 can be viewed online there and it is also widely available in ‘hard copy’ printed form.
CINE-CAFE will be participating in this year’s Bealtaine 2010 festival, screening a specially-themed selection of recent Irish short films under the title ‘Older’…’, all of which feature older people prominently in their principal cast and/or crew, both to entertain and to illustrate the Bealtaine theme of ‘creativity in older age’ in one of the most modern of all art forms.
This ‘CINE-CAFE Special’ will tour durng May to various different locations in Dublin and around the country, screening ‘Older…’ in cafes, public libraries, community centres, hotels and pubs that have a plasma-size television or a sports ‘big screen’ with the capacity to show short films on a dvd player. The entry for CINE-CAFE is at page 27 of Bealtaine 2010’s programme.
At present I am actively seeking suitable short films to screen in the programme for ‘Older…’. I’m also looking for suitable venues around the country which we might visit at some point during the month of May for the express purpose of putting on this film show at their premises, at no charge to them or to their patrons.
