Culture Night 2010

Filmbase is delighted to once again be participating in Culture Night and this year we have a whole host of activities planned. They include short film screenings in the basement space and on the ground floor, taster courses in editing, directing and sound, a special make-up FX demo for all ages and lots more!

Read on for an overview of the activities taking place throughout the evening. We will be posting the full timetable and booking details in early September so check back then for more info or email clare@filmbase.ie to be the first to receive details!

TASTER COURSES
All of these taster courses are free and will last approximately one hour. Please note different courses are suitable for different age groups and booking is essential. Booking will begin from early September – email your contact details to clare@filmbase.ie if you’d like to be the first to receive booking info.

Directing for the Screen with Vinny Murphy
Suitable for ages 16+
Time: TBC

Vinny Murphy will lead a taster course in Directing for the Screen at Filmbase on Culture Night. Vinny Murphy is an actor / writer / director whose critically acclaimed feature Accelerator, won many awards including UIP Best Director. He has also written and directed many shorts as well as acting in numerous film and TV dramas. His vast experience of teaching goes back over eighteen years.

Sound for TV & Film with Noel Quinn
Suitable for ages 16+
Time: TBC

Anyone interested in sound for TV & Film should sign up for this taster session with Noel Quinn. Noel has been involved in the film business for almost forty years working on feature films, documentaries, and commercials in Ireland and Australia. Noel’s sound credits include Michael Collins, Veronica Guerin, Laws of Attraction and The Honeymooners; in 1989 he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on The Hijacking of the Achille Lauro. Noel has lectured extensively on film sound in Ireland and Australia.

Make-Up FX Demo with Terri Pinnell
Suitable for ages 12+
Time: TBC

Make-up artist Terri Pinnell will give a special FX make-up demonstration on Culture Night here at Filmbase. Terri is a professional make-up artist whose credits include web series Zombie Bashers (Winner of 2010 RTE StoryLand competition) and feature film Portrait of a Zombie. You can check out some of Terri’s work on Zombie Bashers at http://www.rte.ie/storyland/. You can also check out pictures of her work on the Film Ireland website (HERE>) taken during the hugely successful Special FX Make Up Night that was held at Filmbase in April.

Introduction to Editing with Final Cut Pro
Suitable for ages 16+
Time: TBC

As Ireland’s first Apple Authorised Training Centre, Filmbase is the perfect place to learn all about editing with Final Cut Pro, Apple’s professional editing software. One of Filmbase’s Final Cut Pro trainers will take you through the basics using on screen demos during this free hour long introductory course. Participants will also be able to try out simple editing techniques using the software and will be encouraged to ask questions throughout!

SHORT FILM SCREENINGS

Ground Floor – free, open to all, continuous throughout the evening
A selection of Irish shorts will be screening on our ground floor screens throughout the night. This special selection of shorts will start at 5pm and will screen on a loop throughout the night until 11pm. This is free and open to all so call by Filmbase to check out the latest Irish filmmaking talent.

Basement Space – free, ticketed, screening time TBC, NB this screening is not suitable for kids
Filmbase will host a late night screening of a selection of recent Irish short films in the Basement Space on Culture Night. This screening will include a number of shorts recently funded through the Filmbase/RTÉ Short Film awards scheme as well as a number of other shorts including the recent award-winning films The Crush (Honorable Mention Best First Short Drama, Galway Film Fleadh 2010) and Noreen (Winner Best Short Drama, Galway Film Fleadh 2010).
