An Irish Christmas film comes to Times Square in August!
New York audiences will get an early glimpse of Christmas in Dublin when Irish short “Nollaig Shona” plays to an audience of up to 1000 in Times Square this Friday, August 27th at 7.30pm (and again on Saturday August 28th at 7.30 pm).
Selected from over 5000 entries, Irish writer-director Orla Murphy’s short black comedy “Nollaig Shona” (Happy Christmas, subtitled) screens at Duffy Square in the shorts programme of the first open-air New York City International Film Festival, supported by the Mayor’s office of Film and Television in New York.
“Nollaig Shona”( Gaelic for Merry Christmas) is an ironic title for this surreal dark comedy about love, loss and recycling. Grammy award-winner John Prine loved this short so much he lent his music to it. Writer-Director Orla Murphy, who will attend the screening, said “To have an Irish film, in the irish language, screen in such an iconic location is a huge honour”.
“Nollaig Shona”/Happy Christmas was produced with the support of the Irish Film Board and TG4, by Vico Films in association with Princess Pictures.
Orla Murphy, currently working in New York, returns to Ireland in October to prep her next film “My Funny Valentines” slated for production in Spring 2011.
“Nollaig Shona” stars Sean MacDonagh, Áine Ní Dhroigneáin (Ros na Rún) and Eamonn Hunt (Happy Ever Afters) and Princess the dog from the Fircroft animal stable.
