Theme: “Deadlines”

This session was a special on writing in advance of the upcoming script deadlines. Filmmakers in attendance were writer Pierce Ryan (Smalltalk, Jellybaby, Runners), writer/director Michael Kinirons (Lowland Fell, The Elephant and the Seagull, Treeclimber) and writer/director Jamie Hannigan (The Beekeeper’s Son, The Boy with the Ever Open Jaw, Two Point Five Billion). Below is a list of the shorts that were screened on the night.

Lowland is living with her workaholic Dad for the summer and she’s very bored. It’s the day before her 17th birthday and with little else to do she goes riding around the countryside on her scooter. Going off the beaten track leads to an unexpected discovery and unforgettable encounter with two brothers.

The Beekeeper’s Son

The Beekeeper’s Son tells of a young boy who steals away from an old man’s wake and wanders into the surrounding countryside.

Smalltalk

A hauntingly bizarre confessional. An unfulfilled housewife recounts the story of the night she met her unusually physically challenged lover.

Jellybaby

Jack and Jill had a great relationship. Then they had a baby.

ShortSpace Submissions:

  • Filmbase accepts short film submissions for ShortSpace in all genres (drama, documentary, animation, experimental)
  • To submit your film please email the ShortSpace programmer for more details on clare@filmbase.ie
  • Please note that submitting your film does not guarantee inclusion in the programme
  • Ideally shorts should be ten minutes or under films. Films over 30 minutes will not be accepted.

    • ShortSpace at Filmbase takes place in the Basement Space on the first Thursday of every month however this is subject to change. Details will be posted on the website.
