The documentary Martírio,

The documentary Martírio, by filmmaker and indigenist Vincent Carelli (co-directed by Ernesto Carvalho and Tatiana Almeida), which tells the saga of the Guarani-Kayowaa indigenous people to retake their lands, was released in 2016 at Brasilia Film Festival.

Painful and necessary, it is an invitation for us to become more aware of the harsh and violent reality of indigenous peoples in Brazil, from the resistance of the Guarani-Kayowa ethnic group against the powerful agribusiness apparatus. It causes us to reflect, but it goes beyond: it is courageous and invites us to confrontation.

“Now with this tragedy with the Guarani Kaiowa, something must be done, and cinema is a powerful tool. It is not by taste that I have dealt with the theme of violence against the Indians, it is by imposition of events.“ (Carelli)
