The Irish Pub is a eulogy to the greatest institution in Irish society, the pub — or, more specifically, the publicans who run them. The pubs featured have been in these families for generations, and it is through their owners’ warmth, wit and wisdom that we gain an insight into the heart and soul of the Irish boozer.
Meandering from Connemara to Carlow, from Monaghan to West Cork, from Louth to Limerick — and from conversation to captivating conversation — the documentary reflects on the history of Ireland, its characters, music, anecdotes, politics, sport and religion, and the Irish sense of humour.
“An absolute gem of a movie that should be seen by everyone. . . . It radiates colour and texture both in cinematic and human terms.” Tradconnect.com
“As much a celebration of the Irish personality as it is our everlasting love for a few jars. . . . It never outstays its welcome.” Entertainment.ie
The Irish Pub is an Atom Films production in association with Bord Scannán na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board.
