The Irish Society of Stage and Screen Designers

The Irish Society of Stage and Screen Designers.

ISSSD is a professional organisation representing theatre, film and television designers living and working in Ireland. The society is an independent and voluntary body, run by designers, for all design practitioners.

Ireland has a rich and evolving design tradition, one that is worthy of national and international recognition. In recent years, the work of the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland has been increasingly successful in establishing the importance of design within educational, technological and cultural sectors and in the promotion of Ireland as a design-driven society. The ISSSD has established two key objectives for the period 2018 – 19:

November 2018 – January 2019: A National Exhibition of Design for Stage and Screen June 2019: Represent Ireland at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2019 The National Exhibition of Design for Stage and Screen will celebrate the achievements of Irish designers to date and showcase the multiple contributions that designers make to our cultural lives. The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space brings the best of Performance Design, Scenography and Theatre Architecture from around the world to the front line of cultural activity. Presenting at PQ19 will place Irish design at the very centre of a global cultural exchange.

ISSSD is passionate about putting Irish design on the map. They believe that these events, along with workshops, training and professional development opportunities, will greatly enhance the understanding and appreciation of design for stage and screen. Laying the foundation for a valuable, creative exchange with the wider cultural community throughout Ireland and beyond.

The founding of ISSSD is a hugely ambitious and exciting undertaking on behalf of the Irish design community, inspired by and in line with the larger strategies developed in ID2015 and Design Ireland 2017. Our membership includes many of the leading design practitioners and educators in Ireland, who are committed to raising the profile of Irish design, securing Ireland’s status as a centre of excellence in design for performance.
At present the membership is predominately from a theatre background, they would like to hear from designers working on screen.
