Filmbase is delighted to announce the first Screen Studio Series for actors. The series is a collection of masterclasses taught by top industry professionals specially designed to help actors hone their craft while giving them access to some of the best acting and professional development tutors. Topics include Creating the Charisma Factor; Interactive Voice Technique; The Art of Comedy; Improvisational Skillset; Stunt Fighting Practice; Alexander, Stanislavski and Chekhov Techniques, Self-Taping and finally The Casting Panel.

TUESDAY 14th APRIL 6.30PM – 9.30PM owen MASTERCLASS TUTOR: Owen Fitzpatrick

MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: Owen will be exploring Charisma in a whole new depth. Having taught workshops on charisma for the last twenty years Owen has focused on developing his insights on captivating communication, inspiring influence and powerful presentations.

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: As a voice coach and practitioner, Maria specialises in presentation skills, voice production, confidence building, and presentation content.

    Maria’s goal is to help actors bring clarity and confidence into their speech, physical presence, energy, and presentation content, thus enabling them to engage more fully, dynamically, and effectively with their audience and peers.

    The workshop includes:

  • To understand the mechanics of a natural speaking voice.
  • Learn correct breathing and relaxation techniques to enhance vocal delivery during public speaking & presentations.
  • Use your voice proactively & productively to engage and connect with people through a wealth of voice training techniques.
  • To deal with habitual tensions which effect your voice confidence and vocal delivery.
  • To “own your space” vocally through work on posture, voice and breathing techniques.

      ABOUT MARIA TECCE Maria Tecce is an actor, singer, and voice coach from Boston now based here in Dublin. Maria has 15 years experience with the media and offers a special module to executives and public personalities in media interview techniques, microphone techniques, and best practices when appearing on radio, television, and presenting on stage.

    The last few years have been Maria’s busiest to date, performing and writing with Irish music-comedy act The Nualas topping the list of surprises in this multi-talented performer’s career. She also premièred her vibrant new show ‘Strapless’at Edinburgh Fringe Festival & Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival, performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra, acted in Dublin’s prestigious Gate Theatre in ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’, and launched her third album ‘Viva’.     WEDNESDAY 29th April, 6.30PM – 9.30PM & WEDNESDAY 6th MAY, 6.30PM – 9.30PM Angela MASTERCLASS TUTOR: Aingeala De Burca

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: Aingeala’s intention is to help actors move with more ease and less tension, to reach yours goals more effortlessly. In these classes, the actor will learn the principles and concepts of the Alexander Technique, and how to make practical use of them.

    The Alexander Technique is a powerful tool for making positive changes in all areas of life. It teaches a new way of thinking in relation to movement which results in greater physical command and more ease of movement.

    Aingeala’s teaching of the Alexander Technique is based on two important ideas. First of all, is the most powerful way to learn this work is to work in a group context. Secondly, by working directly with people in simple and specialised activities, actors are better able to learn to do this work for themselves.

      ABOUT AINGEALA DE BURCA Aingeala De Búrca began her study of the Alexander technique in 2002 in order to find ways of managing performance related difficulties and pain.

    These difficulties soon resolved, but she realised that continuing with her study of the technique would further improve her expression and communication not just as a performer, but in all areas of life. She began teacher training in 2003 with Don Weed, founder and Head of Training of the ITM, and qualified as a teacher of the Interactive Teaching Method (ITM) for the teaching of the F.M.

    She has taught classes in Ireland, Germany, the UK and Denmark. She has also taught Alexander technique performance coaching classes for the Irish Composer’s Collective, at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, the Jazz degree course at Newpark School of Music, Dublin, and the music department Dundalk Institute of Education.

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: Maria Tecce will be back to lead Interactive Voice Technique Level 2.

    This is where you will apply what you have learned and practised from the first class in Interactive Voice level 1. Any questions you might have relating to homework given in Voice level 1 can be answered in this class.

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: The Art of Comedy workshop is an intensive training where the actor discovers his or her own personal ‘Ridiculousness’.

    Some people seem to make us laugh by simply walking onto the stage but how? During this workshop we explore each actor’s personal comic presence and develop the individual’s unique comic talents. Throughout the workshop Sue will uncover the secrets of comedy.

    The workshop includes:

  • A focus on finding your unique writing voice and then honing your writing to better support it.
  • An in-depth exploration of crafting jokes as the building blocks of comedy.
  • An emphasis on the balance between discovering the comedy in your writing and then clarifying and refining exactly WHAT your comedy/sketch is about.
  • Learning the ELEMENTS of what makes good comedy work and applying those elements to your own writing.
  • Performance coaching where your ideas are developed.

      ABOUT SUE COLLINS Sue Collins will lead The Art of Comedy masterclass. Sue co-founded ‘The Nualas’ in 1995, an act which became a huge success until they disbanded in late 2001. During this time, The Nualas performed all over the world, most notably The Royal Albert Hall London, a sell-out seven week run at The Irish Arts Centre, New York, The Edinburgh Festival and The Olympia Theatre in Dublin as well as other venues across the UK, Ireland, Australia and Asia. They appeared on television and radio programmes (The Ned Sherrin Show, Edinburgh Nights, The Arts Show BBC World Service) and wrote and performed two six-part series for BBC Radio Four. The Nualas reformed in 2010 and have been touring Ireland successfully for the last couple of years including an appearance with their huge comeback hit comedy song ‘Yummy Mummy blues’ on The Late Late show for RTE.

    As a solo artist, Sue regularly wrote and performed sketches on the radio show ‘Stand-up sketches’ for RTE radio, plus a half hour comedy special The Plunkett-Murphys in the ‘Stand-up story’ series for RTE, a one woman comedy show Only Gorgeous and produced and toured with Funny Girls, an all-woman comedy show, performing her latest creation ‘Carmel’ which she also brought to The Cat Laughs comedy festival and most recently she appeared on ‘Liffey Laughs’ (RTE). Sue is a founder member and guest improviser with The Dublin Comedy Improv and contributed to ‘The Village’ magazine as their resident comedy columnist. She co-starred in the female version of Neil Simon’s ‘The Odd Couple’ which toured Ireland.

    Television credits include Raw (RTE), Soupy Norman (RTE), Raising Children, The School Run (TV3), Badly Drawn Roy (BBC), vexed for (BBC). Sue starred in RTE’s new mock-doc comedy Inside the Crystal Ball with Pat Shortt and featured in the long running comedy show Mattie . She most recently appeared in The Center for RTE as Kathleen.


    WEDNESDAY 27th MAY 6.30PM – 9.30PM Neil MASTERCLASS TUTOR: Neil Curran

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: Improvisation is a fun yet powerful way to release your creative potential in a fun and supportive environment.

    On the course, we explore the basics and fundamentals of improvisation both as a performing and life skill. The masterclass is designed to be fun and liberating as we unlock our creativity and conquer any inhibitions or fears we harbor.

    At the end of the class, participants will grasp the fundamentals of improvisation and will be able to apply those new skills to your personal, work and performing life.

    The workshop includes:

  • Actors and performers create scenes.
  • Learn to think on their feet.
  • What makes things funny.
  • Learn to improvise withòut rambling.
  • Learn to create stories and characters in the moment.
  • There is no script, no planning and no safety net but it’s a lot of fun!

      ABOUT NEIL CURRAN Neil has taught improv to a number of well known personalities including Síle Seoige, Daniella Moyles, Jenny Buckley, Rick O’Shea, Paddy McKenna and Shane Gillen.

    No stranger to the international stage, Neil has taught and performed improv in San Francisco, New York, Orange County California, Shanghai, Brussels, London and Brighton.

    Neil teaches improvisation as both a performing art and a life skill. In recent years Neil has being facilitating Improvisation in Business workshops for many companies and recent clients include Smurfit Business School, UCD, Popcap Games International Ltd, , Google, Facebook, Telefonica Ireland (O2) Ltd, Wilson Hartnell Public Relations (Part of the Ogilvy & Mather Group), and Gala Networks Europe Ltd.


    WEDNESDAY 3rd JUNE 6.30PM – 9.30PM Joe MASTERCLASS TUTOR: Joe Condren

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: This class is designed to provide actors with an essential basic assortment of knowledge to those pursuing careers as professional stunt performers or as actors who want to perform his or her own stunts.

    This workshop includes:

  • Discussion of fight terminology and different styles of fighting.
  • Learn to throw basic punches.
  • Practice how to hit and learn why acting is so important to stunt fighting.
  • Western/Street.
  • Straight kicks, sidekicks, jump kicks, Stomach punch, Uppercut etc.

      ABOUT JOE CONDREN Joe Condren is a stunt coordinator and a member of Stunt Register Ireland which was set up to regulate and actively promote Irish Stunt Professionals.

    He is known for his work on ‘King Arthur’, ‘In America’, ‘Calvary’, ‘Foyle’s War’ and ‘Moone Boy’ to name just a few.


    WEDNESDAY 10th JUNE 6.30PM – 9.30PM & Wednesday 17th June 6.30 – 9.30PM Mary Moynihan MASTERCLASS TUTOR: Mary Moynihan

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: This class is designed to provide actors with an techniques within the Stanislavsky Method and Chekhov Acting Techniques. An actor may wish to borrow from one or both depending on the project at they are working on.

    Stanislavski Method Acting is conscious and professional approach to acting. When it is mastered it gives an actor exceptional possibilities for achieving creative results in the field of dramatic art.

    Chekhov developed his innovative psycho – physical acting techniques incorporating imagination and body. With this technique, the actor learns how to consider his body as an instrument for expressing his creative imagination.

    Many Russian, European and American actors, in order to further develop their craft and grow as artists, embraced Michael Chekhov Acting Technique.

    This workshop includes:

  • Creating an objective – the objective is a goal that a character wants to achieve.
  • The Magic What If – methods for achieving the truthful pursuit of a character’s emotion was his “magic if.”
  • Motivation – through the use of system, an actor must analyse their character’s motivations.
  • Sensitivity of the Body – the actor’s body can be developed from the inside.
  • Rich Psychology – the actor must penetrate the psychology of its characters.
  • Creative Imagination – our creative imagination constantly draws pictures in our mind. We can learn to collaborate with these images by asking questions from them and sometimes ordering them to show us what we are looking for.
  • Atmosphere, quality and sensations – the atmosphere – whether it is happy, sad, calm, hectic, nervous, etc. – has a tremendous impact on the way we act.

      ABOUT MARY MOYNIHAN Mary Moynihan is a creative artist working in professional theatre and film. She works as a theatre director, writer, actor, lecturer and facilitator.

    Mary lectures in drama and theatre studies for the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Drama (performance) at the Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin Institute of Technology where she teaches the Stanislavski system of actor training, Augusto Boal and Michael Chekhov techniques, movement and drama facilitation and directs first and final year performances.

    As an actor Mary has worked in theatre, television and film, including RTE’s Fair City, Federico Garcia Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba at the Focus Theatre and End of Term by Maeve Binchy on nationwide tour.


    WEDNESDAY 24th JUNE 6.30PM – 9.30PM Amy De Bhrún_Headshot 2015 (2) MASTERCLASS TUTOR: AMY DE BHRÚN

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: In this class you will learn how to apply all you’ve learnt to self-taping.

    Self-taping has become the most prevalent form of first-level audition. With many casting directors and agents looking for the most effect way to time manage casting projects.

    Making self-tapes may seem plain common sense, but each piece of advice given here will set apart the amateur from the professional actor.

    ***During this masterclass actors will complete a piece to camera for our Filmbase Studio Audition Archive so that can be considered for up-coming Filmbase Short/Feature films***

    This workshop includes:

  • Applying all your masterclass techniques to your performance/self-tape.
  • Preparing for the audition – learn your lines, make bold choices and create compelling characters, dress appropriately, avoid props.
  • Filming the audition – Where to shoot, lighting, how to frame and reading a two hander with a friend.
  • Getting the best performance from yourself in each take.
  • Being confident you can deliver a professional audition within the deadline.

      ABOUT AMY DE BHRÚN Amy has written and performed 6 different one-woman shows throughout Ireland, London, New York and Los Angeles.

    As an actor her recent roles include,’The Crown & the Dragon’ (Arrowstorm Entertainment) ‘All is by my Side’, (Matador Pictures) ‘Vikings'(The History Channel) ‘Penny Dreadful’ (Showtime) ‘Casualty’ (BBC) and ‘The Stag’ (Treasure Entertainment).

    Amy stars in both of the Irish band Kodaline music videos for their hit song “All I Want” – which has won various awards and received millions of hits worldwide.

    An accomplished writer – Amy’s short film AFTER received the RTE/Filmbase Funding award. Produced by Kennedy Films, directed by Seán Branigan and starring opposite Paul Reid – this film premiered at Galway Film Fleadh 2014, before screening at festivals worldwide.


    WEDNESDAY 1st JUly 6.30PM – 9.30PM Acting-Tips MASTERCLASS TUTOR: Leading Casting Directors & Acting Agents

    MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN: One of the hardest parts of becoming an actor is the audition process.

    During the audition process you are trying to impress the casting director. In this class you will hear from leading casting directors and agents on easy tips and steps you can use to impress the casting director/agent in order to have a stand out audition.



    We are excited to announce that casting director Carmel O’Connor will be on the panel as part of the Screen Studio Series for actors! Carmel has cast ‘Moone Boy’, ‘Gangs of New York’ and music videos for ‘Kodaline’.


    Louise is known for her work on ‘Red Rock’, ‘What Richard Did’, ‘Death of a Superhero’ and ‘Parked’. An agent to be announced. Stay tuned!!!
