A DIRECTOR PREPARES - MASTERCLASS
NEXT DAY TBC
From script-to-screen: how does a director prepare? Approaching a screenplay and thinking about how to fully realise it onscreen is a highly demanding, and sometimes daunting task. This popular one-day intensive masterclass with writer and director Virginia Gilbert is an exploratory introduction to the methods and skills a director uses to prepare for production.
With a focus on thematic and analytical work with a view to practical application, the day covers:
- The story as a whole: themes, motifs, mood and atmosphere;
- How a director reads and analyses a script in order to prepare for work with the actors;
- How to give playable directions and how to get the truthful and spontaneous performances you want from your actors;
- Preparing the shoot: working with key Heads of Departments, communicating your ideas, visual style and film grammar.
A follow-up masterclass will enable participants to practically apply their work, date TBC.
