27th Galway Film Fleadh Winners


Galway Film Fleadh 2015

The 27th Galway Film Fleadh has drawn to a close and the winners have been announced at the conclusion of the festival on Sunday, 12th July.

The Best Irish Feature Film award was picked up by Cartoon Saloon’s animated feature Song of the Sea. Tomm Moore’s Academy Award®-nominated film has received critical acclaim and is currently on release in Irish cinemas.

The Best Irish First Feature award went to Mark Noonan’s You’re Ugly Too. The film stars Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) as Will, who is released from prison on compassionate leave to care for his niece Stacey (Lauran Kinsella; Albert Nobbs), after the death of her mother. You’re Ugly Too was produced by John Keville and Conor Barry and will be released in cinemas on July 24th.

Older Than Ireland was the winner of the Best Irish Documentary Award. Alex Fegan’s documentary, which explores what it means to have lived one hundred years in Ireland, as seen through the eyes of its oldest citizens, was warmly received at its premiere at the festival on July 10th.

For his work on Simon Fitzmaurice’s My Name is Emily, Seamus Deasy was the winner of the Best Cinematography in an Irish Feature award. The film’s producer, Kathryn Kennedy, was the winner of the Bingham Ray New Talent Award.

The Fleadh Pitching Award: Luke Morgan – Ewetopia.
