In a celebration of independent established and emerging filmmakers both nationally and from around the globe, the 2017 Fingal Film Festival screened a broad and exciting range of feature films, documentaries, shorts and animation at Swords Castle last weekend, August 11th until August 13th.The festival opened to a Irish Premiere of ‘Knights of the Damned’ courtesy of High Flyers Dist UK from the Producers of Game of Thrones .

The Galway Film Fleadh has nominated five Irish filmmakers for the 2017 Bingham Ray New Talent Award. This year’s nominees have been shortlisted for their work in the fields of Directing, Acting and Producing.

Co-founder of indie film distributor, October Films and former president of United Artists, Bingham Rayattended the Galway Film Fleadh for many years before his untimely death in 2012. Bingham spent his time at the Galway Film Fleadh mentoring filmmakers; listening, advising and encouraging. The Irish film community benefited hugely from Bingham’s wealth of knowledge across the complete spectrum of the film industry and in 2012 the Galway Film Fleadh recognised his generosity and contribution to the industry by creating the Bingham Ray New Talent Award.

The inaugural Bingham Ray New Talent Award was given to Gerard Barrett by Bingham’s daughters, Annabel and Becca, for  his debut feature Pilgrim Hill. Barrett returns to the Fleadh this year, with his fourth feature film, Limbo. Last year’s recipient was star of Mad Mary and RTE’s Can’t Cope Won’t Cope, Seana Kerslake.
