Irish Co-Production ‘History’s Future’ to Premiere at Rotterdam

Historys Future 230x240-1

History’s Future

Congratulations to the makers of Irish co-production History’s Future, which will have its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) which begins in January.

The film will compete as part of the Hivos Tiger Awards Competition at the festival, and is the first film announced to compete for the award. Eight films will be chosen to compete for the award, worth €40,000.

Festival director Bero Beyer said of the film’s inclusion: “I am particularly happy that, with Fiona Tan’s HISTORY’S FUTURE, we will be able to present the world premiere of a cinematographically strong film. The maker’s unique way of working and distinct voice as an auteur make this a marvellous, engaging and intriguing film. The kind of envelope-pushing experience Rotterdam has always promoted.”

The debut feature from renowned artist Fiona Tan, History’s Future fuses fiction and documentary into a visual essay charting an amnesiac’s odyssey into regaining memory via a Europe in turmoil. By the time his journey ends, MP has learned to survive, newly armed with an understanding of how we live today.

History’s Future stars Irish actors Mark O’Halloran (Adam & Paul) and Brian Gleeson (The Stag) alongside Anne Consigny, Denis Lavant and Johanna ter Steege. It was written by Tan and Jonathan Romney and produced by Cormac Fox for Vico Films, Floor Onrust for Family Affair Films and Benny Dreschel for RohFilm.

History’s Future is an Irish/Dutch/German co-production and was financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, Netherlands Film Fund, Mondriaan Fonds, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and MEDIA.
