Workshop: Business 101 for Creative Startups

Ever wondered how to properly set up a business in a creative field?
Do you know what happens if your team splits up half way through a project? And what about VAT, accounts, or tax returns?

In this half-day workshop by Kevin Murphy from RetroNeo Games, you’ll learn how to start a company, stay compliant, and save money as a start-up business.

The aim of the workshop is to give you a solid grounding in every area relevant to creative start-ups, so as you can get on with your dream projects without fear of running into legal troubles.

Topics covered will include everything from copyright law to forming (or not forming, and why) Ltd companies, and from claiming expenses to filing your tax returns.

While the workshop is aimed more towards game developers, the same laws apply to film makers, musicians, performers, or personal trainers. All attendees will get the same value from the workshop, no matter their industry.

The workshop will run from 11am – 4pm on Saturday July 8th in FilmBase, Temple Bar, with a break for lunch.

Kevin has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UCD, has achieved 2 (of the 3) exams from the Irish Tax Institute towards the Chartered Tax Adviser qualification, and has extensive experience working in accounts payable/receivable and bookkeeping roles in various companies, as well as having worked in events, and managed bands and stage shows.
